Stirling Cryogenics

History

The history of Stirling Cryogenics India Pvt. Ltd actually begins with Philips, because we acquired Cryogenics business of Philips India Limited in 2002. Cryogenics business of Philips India Limited was a marketing and servicing organisation, meaning that it was responsible for marketing and maintenance of cryogenic equipment that was manufactured at The Netherlands. Originally set up in 1968 it was one of the most successful cryogenic activities of Philips anywhere in the world.

Operation Flood
When the Indian government introduced Operation Flood in 1970, Philips was initially the most desired supplier of the liquid nitrogen plants required for this programme, mainly because its systems - based on the Stirling cycle - were much more reliable than the turbine-based alternatives. Over the years approximately 250 plants were sold to bovine artificial insemination centres throughout India.

All these plants had to be maintained and kept operational. So the service organisation of Philips India grew and became competent to deal with the increasingly large installed base. Gradually an efficient, well organised service network was established in order to cope with the large number of liquid nitrogen plants in use over such a large area.

Sales and worldwide service
Today Stirling Cryogenics India Pvt. Ltd is an extremely valuable component of the worldwide Stirling organisation. India is a very important market for Stirling and is the only country with a dedicated national organisation. In addition, worldwide service and maintenance of all Stirling equipment are now being carried out from India.
